First of all, let us
pray to the Almighty Allah SWT, because of his blessing we can attend this
english speech contest.
Second, may peace be upon our prophet Muhammad SAW, who has guided us from the darkness to the brightness, from the stupidity to the cleverness, from jahiliyah era to the islamic era, namely ‘ummul islam. So by his guidance, we are able to differentiate the approviate way and the inapproviate way, in order to enter God’s heaven.
Ladies and gentleman...
In this occasion, I
would like to deliver a speech under the title “Making Social Care in Islamic
Side”
As we all know. We, as
muslims, have many of activities in this world which are considered goodness
and useful in our social interactions. Talking of social interactions, this
time I will focus on “social program through the implementation of 5 islamic
obligations”. Well, I am sure every muslim are familiar with the five islamic
obligations. The first syahadah, second shalat, third zakat, fourth saum, and
the fifth is hajj.
Ladies and gentleman...
Now, let’s come into
the first islamic obligation, syahadatain.
What is syahadah?
Syahadah is declaring that the only God is Allah, and Muhammad is the last God
messenger. Syahadah is the main principles and important foundation for islamic
obligations. Without syahadah, the other obligation will broken and so the
pillars of faith. The upright of syahadah in the individual life will upright
our worships. With syahadatain, it will realizing the spiritual attitude that
will provide motivation to physical behavior and minds, and motivate us to
carry out the other pillars of islam.
Ladies and gentleman...
It means that, we must
follow Allah commands and Muhammad behavior. Such as caring for orphans, and do
good to others. What is orphan? Orphan is the one whose father or mother died.
The command to care for orphans, can be found at Q.S. Al-Ma’un verse 1-7
“Have you ever seen him who denies our religion? It is he who harshly
repels the orphans and does not urge others to feed the needy. Woe to those who
pray but are headless of their prayers; who put on a show of piety but refuse
to give even the smallest help to others”
In religion : lakum dii
nukum waliyadiin
“for you is your religion, and for me is my
religion” (Q.S. Al-kafiruun verse 6)
Ladies and gentleman...
Next, we turn into the
second pillars of islam, shalat. What is shalat? Shalat refers to prayers.
Terminologically, or in the context of fiqh, shalat is an act of worship that
is opened by takbiratul ihram and closed by salam. Salat, the obligatory muslim
prayers performed five times a day, shubuh at dawn, zuhur at noon, ashar at
mid-afternoon, maghrib at sunset, and isya at evening.
But the main question
is, ‘What is the social aspect of shalat?’
Well, now the answer for the question is on the advantages of shalat. Shalat has advantages for the society. Shalat in congregation or in the mosque has the social advantages of bringing people together in worship and to strengthen their brotherhood. The call to prayer, adzan, is necessary to make sure that the whole community congregates. The spirit of brotherhood and social organization is reflected in the requirement to straighten rows to stand shoulder to shoulder and follow the imam. The whole community meets five times a day in congregational prayer. The large community meets once a weeks on Friday is Friday prayer. An even larger gathering occurs during the two festival prayer, shalat al eidain. Praying in congregation is so important that it is recomended that even if you have completed your obligatory prayer, you should repeat it as nafilat if there is a jamaah offering the same prayer. Facing the qiblat is a condition for validity of shalat. The qiblat signifies the unity of the ummat and the unity of action, since worshippers from all over the world are acting in unison.
Warning of dire
consecuences of leaving or neglecting shalat. The Quran has severe warning for
those who are lazy with shalat. The prophet said that the difference between
muslims and non muslims is shalat and that whoever abandons shalat become a
kafir. He also said that shalat stands between a person and shirk. This can
increase the discipline and the awareness of time for muslims.
Ladies and gentleman...
Now, let’s go on into
the third islamic obligation namely zakat.
What is zakat? Zakat or
alms-giving is the prescribes payment of fixed proportions of a muslim’s
possesions for the welfare of the entire community. Every muslims, wether they
are adult, free, affordable muslim, male or female, has to pay zakat to support
specific categories people. Such as listed in Surah At-Taubah (9) verse 60 : “The alms are only for the poor and the
needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled,
and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for)
the wayfarers; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is knower, wise”
The next question is, what is the usefulness of zakat?
First, zakat promote
the poor and help them out of hardship and suffering.
Second, zakat helps to
solve the problems faced by gharimin, ibnu sabil, and other mustahik.
Third, spread and
foster brotherhood between muslims and human beings in General.
Fourth, zakat avoid us
from jealousy and enviosity in the hearts of the muslims.
Fifth, unite the rich
and poor people within a society.
Sixth, develop the
sense of responsibility, especially for those who have wealth.
Seventh, educate the
human being to discipline in fulfill their duty and another people’s right who
are attached by God to them.
The last, zakat means
of redistributing income to achieve social justice.
Talking about zakat,
zakat and shalat are social activities that can not be separated. As mentioned
in many surah, such as QS. Al-baqarah verse 43:
“And establish prayer and give zakat and bow with those who bow”
That verse implies that
shalat and zakat are worship that should be done simultaneously. Because prayer
is a path representative of relationship with God, while zakat is
representative of the way relationship between human beings.
Ladies and gentleman...
Now, let’s go on into
the fourth islamic obligation, namely saum or fasting.
Fasting is the
abstention from eating, drinking, adn other sensual pleasures from dawn to
sunset.
After we know what’s
fasting. Next, we must know, what is the social aspect or advantages that we
can get from doing fasting.
As we all know, saum is
a very private worship. It’s different from other religious activities since
it’s hard to see, while others like hajj and shalat are visible. But, if we are
pretending to fasting, no body knows, but of course, Allah knows.
Although saum is
privacy, but it’s include the social teachings which important for us to
transform in our daily life.
Well, first, fasting
trains and foster our social sensitivity for the people who run it well.
Second, fasting deliver
us to the fear of Allah, then they will not be stingy to theirself and to
others who are nearby.
Third, fasting has
thaught us that the hunger we feel is nothing compared to the surrounding lower
economic people.
Fourth, fasting help us
to leave the backbitting, gossips, lies, quarrels, and other negative things.
Ladies and gentleman...
The last islamic
obligation is hajj. What is hajj?
In terms, hajj means a
visit or pilgrimage to the house (ka’bah) in the holu land of Mecca to perform
some practice or worship, such as tawaf, sa’i, and the other in a certain time
in order to meet the call of Allah and the implement of the five pillars of
islam.
So what’s the social aspect of hajj?
Hajj, first show us that we as muslims are one. There, all of the muslims using one kind of uniform, ihram. Second, no one may suffer each other because in masjidil haram every act that hurt something or someone such as picking plant, tress pass are forbidden. So, there everything is meaning something in our daily life.
Before ending my speech, let me conclude the point of my speech in relation to the social aspect of the five obligation for muslims.
First, syahadah.
Syahadah means we must follow Allah commands and Muhammad’s behavior in all
aspect, especially in our social interactions.
Second, shalat. As
muslims, shalat will strengthen our brotherhood and brings people together in
worship as the unity.
Third, Zakat. Zakat
means of redistributing income to achieve social justice specifically, then
spread and foster brotherhood between muslims and human beings in general.
Fourth, fasting.
Fasting trains and foster our social sensitivity for the people who run it
well, and has taught us that the hunger we feel is nothing compared to the
surrounding lower economic people.
Fifth, hajj. Hajj show
us that we are one and act as unison. Because there, we will interact with
other people from all over the world.
That’s all my speech. Hopefully it will be useful for all of us. Thank you for your attention. And I ask forgiveness for my mistakes.
And the last I say:
Wassalamualaikun Wr.
Wb.
